Hard-to-Find Components for Embedded Systems
An embedded system (also known as an integrated system) is a combination of computer hardware and software designed for a specific function or functions within a larger system. The system can be programmable or have fixed functionality. Essentially an embedded system consists of a hardware device with embedded software with the intention to provide some form of intelligent behavior.
Previously, electronic measurement and control systems consisted entirely of hardware. In an embedded system, the processors (microprocessors and/or controllers) with software takes over part of these electronic measurement and control tasks. Because the software can easily be replaced, the device has more flexibility to adapt to future requirements.
Embedded systems are an integral part of modern technology. Embedded systems are used in all kinds of electronic products, from smartphones to automobiles and from televisions to washing machines. Essentially, embedded systems are used everywhere automation is needed and the industry supports many other large industries such as the automotive, robotics, and telecommunications industries.
This industry often has need of components in short supply (shortages or allocations) as well as end-of-life components.
